Charlotte, North Carolina—An Asheville photographer who captured the city’s famed skyline in a photograph of her husband’s wedding with his wife’s ashes on the side of the wedding car is about to get a new job.
Cody Miller, 27, was hired in September by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department as a wedding photographer, which was his first assignment with the agency.
Miller said he hopes to work in the department for two years and then move on to the city of Asheville’s downtown as a photographer.
Miller’s next move will be to the state of North Carolina.
Miller and his wife, Jessica, had just wrapped up a four-day honeymoon in South Africa, where they were visiting their son, who is 6.
He said he had already made the decision to move on from Charlotte, and decided to stay in the state.
Miller, who has been a wedding videographer for the past three years, said he loves being able to be in the city and being able interact with people and feel at home.
He and his bride, Taylor, also plan to get married in the near future.
“I’m looking forward to being able work for Charlotte again,” Miller said.
Miller said he was also looking forward for his wife to finally get married.
“I really enjoyed working with her, and it’s going to be great to have the two of us be together,” he said.
He added that he hopes he can do the same for his daughter, who was born in March, as well as his son and daughter-in-law.
“Hopefully they can all go to the wedding together.”
Miller said that he is grateful to have a job with Charlotte’s police department.
“Being able to get to know and be with these wonderful people who have helped me grow as a person and a photographer is going to bring me a lot of happiness and fulfillment,” he added.
Miller, who also shot wedding portraits for his sister, also has worked as a photojournalist at The Charlotte Observer.
He will soon be taking a trip to his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, to document the city as part of a project that will involve the local paper, The Lubbocks Messenger.
He plans to continue photographing weddings, but is excited about working with a local paper.
“The only thing I want to be doing in this new position is documenting weddings in Lubbocking,” Miller told The Guardian in an interview.
“That’s where my heart lies.”
